Overview

The Problem

While some people believe it is easier to get their contact lenses at a doctor’s office, others believe that they can usually find better deals from an online store. However, they both found it difficult to get enough details and advice when browsing contact lenses online. In addition to that, the procedure of getting contact lenses from an online store is different from getting them at a brick-and-mortar optician because they have to upload their prescription and find out if their insurance will cover them, etc, which makes them have to spend extra time and effort.

How Might We

provide more credible and comprehensive information about contact lenses to consumers so that their process of purchasing them is less cumbersome?

Research

Primary Research

To start off, I interviewed three people, all of whom had experience getting contact lenses both offline and online.

Key Insights

Cumbersome procedures and the lack of access to a doctor's advice make the process of selecting the right contacts a tedious one for the customer.

Getting suitable contact lenses takes time

Incomplete information about contact lenses in online stores and the difference in the process of getting the right contact lenses from online stores make them feel hassled.

Online product information is in insufficient

I did market research to understand the preferences of my target users in choosing contact lens products.

Restock Reminder Setting

Users can check here to see how many pairs they have opened and how many pairs they have left to open. They can also have the system send restock notifications when they only have a few pairs left.

Make An Appointment For Your Vision Exam

Based on research results, people needs to get prescription before getting their contact lenses. Therefore, including a place for in-app vision-exam appointment scheduling would be a great way to ease the process of getting prescription for them.

Try the Trial Box and See What Suits You The Best

Users can experience multiple contact lenses before official purchase. Offering them the option to choose products from their trial box after the trial can increase the number of users using this app.

Style Guide

To convey a fresh and calm tone, I used a soft blue as the main color and added a bit of lake green as an accent to add vibrancy.

Takeaway

When I started deciding to create a contact lens shopping program, I thought I would have a hard time designing a program that would be better than the existing programs on the market. In order to make this program different from the existing programs, I added some usage aids in order to provide a consistently good experience for the user. I especially learned a lot from the ideation phase because it allowed me to think outside the box and come up with ideas to create a better user experience.
